Let’s all agree on one thing, all puppies are cute and special in their own way. Some have the most beautiful big eyes, others have a charming chubbiness, fluffiness, and then there are those who win our hearts by simply being their goofy little clumsy selves. But there are those who stand out in the crowd, with an unusual coloring that catches the eye immediately.

Salvador Dolly is an adorable puppy from Dallas that has one very distinct feature
Meet Salvador Dolly, a shelter puppy from Dallas that rocks a dramatic mustache stretching from one side of her lip to another. She is part of a litter of 11 and currently lives in foster care in New York. Crazy Pumpkin reached out to Hearts & Bones Rescue to find out more about her and her big family.
“It’s puppy season in Dallas right now and there are always multiple moms with litters at the shelter,” Allison Seelig from Hearts & Bones Rescue explained. “Dallas Animal Services, a shelter with the 3rd highest number of animal intakes in the entire country, […] took in mama and her 11 babies as strays and cared for them for 2 weeks, but puppies are at a very high risk of getting sick in the shelter environment, so we knew we had to get them out,” she continued. Within a week, the entire family of 12 were moved out of the shelter straight into foster care, all thanks to the cooperation between Dallas Animal Services and Hearts & Bones Rescue.
“The whole family is now relaxing in a comfy and safe home and getting medical care and monitoring until the puppies are old enough to be weaned,” Allison reported, and added that the puppies are currently only 5 weeks old and are still nursing. Although currently all 12 dogs are living under one roof in foster care, the non-profit organization is planning on moving them to NYC in late August to separate foster homes until they find their forever homes.
Seelig reported that the puppies are very active and playful and doing great, as is their mother. “The puppies are all so unique looking and adorable, and while we are overwhelmed with applications for Dolly right now, her siblings are still looking for homes in the NYC area! We also need foster homes in NYC ready to take them in when they arrive,” she encouraged. Anyone interested in helping with foster care or finding the puppies their forever homes can contact Hearts & Bones Rescue through their site.
“Caring for a family of 12 is very costly, so donations would be a huge help to us right now,” Seelig added, encouraging people to fund medical care for Dolly and her family as well as numerous other dogs by donating to their site here.
Hearts & Bones Rescue is a foster-based dog rescue with teams in both Dallas, TX and New York City. They work with overcrowded shelters (such as in Dallas) where they sometimes take in over 100 animals in a single day. The non-profit organization’s main goal is to save as many lives as possible and help take care of the dogs in any way they can. “Once our dogs leave the shelter, we send them to foster homes in the Dallas area for a couple of weeks to ensure they’re healthy, and then transport them to NYC, where the number of people wanting to adopt dogs is incredibly high!” Allison explained the process.
